THE DIB ATTACKS!
I'm bored. I want to play Fallout (I think I'm addicted, ha), but Ashton crashed over again last night so he's still asleep in the livingroom where the tv and 360 live. Booo. I don't mind him spending the night, I just hate when all life stops because there's someone asleep on my couch. It's after 11! There's so much that I could be doing right now (or could have been doing for the past two hours as I've been up since 930) and I have run out of things to do whilst hanging out in bed (as Evan is also still asleep). Booooored. Wake up couch man! I've got zombies to shoot!

Halloween Harley.

Anime!
So there is talk that we may have a Halloween party this year (YAY!!!). I am super duper excited as Halloween is my favourite holiday and really I just want an excuse to haunt the Halloween Store that finally reopened for the season down the street, ha.

As it is, though This is what I want to be for Halloween )

How the heck do I make this costume? I do have a skirt similar to that, but it's black and I'm not sure it will bleach to white (bleach on black usually makes orange for some reason). The boots may also be a problem as I learned last year that spraypaint doesn't work too well on slick surfaces (as my spray painted rubber gloves didn't really dry well and looked strange). There is also the justification of spending time/money making a costume that I would only really wear once and I'm sure we're never going to go to a con (even though I really, really want to) and even if we did I'm not sure I could talk Evan into cosplaying with me. Humph.

But LOOK HOW FREAKING HOT THAT IS! Haha. I mean, I'll need a long blond wig which would be a bit bothersome as I know my hair will not grow out That much by the end of October to just dye it, but still. Naughty Nurse Harley Quinn = love.

Na na na na na na na na na BATMAN!

Batman should know better.

So. Batman: Arkham Asylum. I am quite comfortable saying that this really is the greatest Batman game of all time. It will most likely win Game of the Year (though if Bioshock 2 comes out in November like it's supposed to and is as awesome as it looks to be, it will be a close decision).

Key awesome points of the game are under here with a few spoilers. )

All in all it's an awesome game. I finished it in about a week and loved every minute of it (though the last boss fight did leave some to be desired). Part of me hopes they make a sequel (they left it wide open to do so), but that part also knows that it wouldn't be Nearly as good as the first.

But yeah. Awesome game.

TOAST!
I am currently baking cookies and watching a video on Karl Marx's communist manifesto (illustrated with various famous cartoons!) for my Sociology class. What else could a girl ask for?

PS. I find it kind of hard to pay attention to what is being said in the video due to all of the little cartoon clips since I recognize so many of them. For example, I instantly realized that a .01 second clip of a gear manufacturing plant that is being run by cute fuzzy wide eyed creatures as being from the Jetsons Movie. I think this is one of those times where I have to wonder what I could know or learn if I erased all of the dorky cartoon/comic/video game knowledge out of my brain.

CoffeecoffeecoffeeCAFFINE!
My Chem professor, before handing out our test this morning, apologized for scheduling it on Sept. 11, saying he had just been thinking about days into the chapter, not the date of the test. Seems odd that people would still be That emotionally affected by something that happened eight years ago that it would affect their test taking ability (though if they lost family it would make sense now that I think about it).

Though on that note it was most likely in bad taste for me to send a text to Evan right after I was done that simply said "bomb" (as in, I feel like I bombed the test...though maybe I got a C, who knows) seeing as how his response was "WHAT?!" Ha. Oops. Honestly, I hadn't even realized the date. I've been too busy worrying about the fact that it's his niece's sixth birthday and I'm not sure if her present will get to the house in time for Evan to leave for the party (he's going with Ashton and I'm just heading over there after work since it starts around the time I get off) because I suck and forgot to order it until this week (we got her Season One of She-Ra having gotten his nephew, who also turned six this year, Season One of He-Man for his birthday last month. I ended up finding the "Best Of" episodes along with the movie (She-Ra's origin! Yay! It was my favourite movie of all time when I was that age, ha) at Half Price yesterday just in case, so, if all else fails, we can save the Season One DVDs for Xmas (or vice versa).)

Though why I'm stressing over his niece's birthday present and he's not, I don't know, ha.

I finally hit 80 earlier in the week (it only took me almost a year and a half, but I didn't use any addons or RAF or anything so I at least I have that accomplishment, ha), which is exciting as I finally have the potential to be useful, ha. I've been running Heroics to get badges cos I guess that's how I can get some good armor to get geared for raiding, but I was allowed to tag along with our guild's 25 Ulduar the other night. That was stressful. I installed Recount which has made me neurtotic as hell about my DPS. Right now I'm averaging about 17-something, which isn't too bad, though, for raiding, they want 3K. Though I did manage to pull a little over 2K on the Deconstructor (though I died part way through so I'm not sure how that affected it), so that almost makes the fact that I ran out of ammo earlier in the raid worth it, ha (thank god for someone's Vendor Mount). But yay for 80!

Man, I don't know who made coffee this morning but damn it was strong, ha.

Video Games Live.

LOVE!
I've seen some freaking awesome musical performances in my life. However, seeing the freaking Pittsburgh Symphony play music from various famous video games, ending with "One Winged Angel" from FFVII was possibly the single most coolest experience ever.

Add to it a Skype call with William Higinbotham, the inventor of the video game (he invented Pong in the 1950s), and hearing Martin Leung, "The Video Game Pianist" play a medley of Final Fantasy songs (including" Aeris/th's theme" and "Eyes on Me", as well as "Tidus' Theme", which are all pretty much my favorite video game songs ever), and it was absolutely mindblowing.

For those out there in TV land--if you have to chance, go see Video Games Live if it comes to your town. Even if you're not hardcore into video games, it is such a fun, exciting experience. There was a 10 year old kid sitting next to me absolutely enthralled. This is such an awesome way to get younger people interested in the symphony and it is seriously worth every penny for tickets.

Article from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette

PS: When the conductor came on stage, from the speakers came the words "Leroy Jenkins!" If you play WoW, you can totally appreciate how freaking awesome that is, ha. :P

PPS: I think that Evan, his brother, and I are the only gamers in the world who really couldn't care less about Halo, ha.

Update.

  • Feb. 10th, 2009 at 12:48 PM

Things that have been happening (or have just happened, really):

1. I'm getting published! One of my short stories will be featured in the June issue of The Battered Suitcase, an online literary journal.

2. I just shot a commerical for I.C. Light. My uncle does advertising for them, and pulled a bunch of people who frequent the restaurant and random family members as extras for the commercial. I got a bit of screen time. I have no idea when the will air. It was a pretty fun experience, though--any other time I've worked for him, I've done PA stuff with the art department. I've never been part of the "talent". I was the most normal looking girl there, ha. All the actual actors were all very thin, very pretty, very blond, and very talented at walking on stilletos, ha. One interesting thing: it seems that you have to be at least 25 to legally be in a beer commercial, which is odd as you only have to be 21 to drink it.

3. The job that I have is a union position. Our contract was up a few days ago, and therefore the union has been threatening to strike. I've been getting bombarded with emails from both ATT and the Union, each stating the opposite of what the other is telling me. I think that both sides are being stupid. The union thinks that, since ATT made over 13 BILLION dollars last year, they should spend some of that on giving their workers raises and such instead of putting it into their own pocket. While I do agree that the money shouldn't all be going to the CEOs, there are over 2.4 MILLION people in this country who are out of work. 2.4 MILLION! And they're squabbling over a couplee bucks? What they SHOULD do with that money is hire some of those Millions of people and help some poor schmuck feed his damned family.

Of course, my opinion is in the smallest minority. At the moment, we're working without a contract. No one is sure, still, whether or not a strike will be called if nothing is signed soon. If it is, though, I'm gonna be forced to picket. I wonder, how much trouble will I get into if I picket the picketlines?

4. I'm making a bit of a comback on FFN. I'm not sure why, other than the fact that I just felt bad that I left so many stories hanging for so long. I feel like they should be finished. So, after three years, "Somewhere Out There" (the sequal to YOLT) as updated. As weird as that is.

5. I finally figured out what's been holding be back on writing a Real version of YOLT, and why, every time I've tried, I've failed: I'm trying too hard to make it different. I don't Have to completely rip apart the original version. There are some very distinct changes that have to be made, yes (most notably being anything relating to aliens, ha), but, really, there is SO much that can stay the same. I've never looked at it from this angle, before, and, in done so, I think I'm off to a good start in brainstorming how the Tests should go. I'm very excited. Granted, every othet time I've gotten excited over this project I've let myself down, but who's counting. I've also come to realize that the story might work best as a Young Adult novel. I was originally going to try to write it for an older audience as some of the themes can be a bit mature, but I figure if *shudder* Twilight can get away with being a YA series when there is vampire sex and a detailed birth scene which involves torturous bone breaking, anything is fair game, now.

6. I've finally made it to Outland on WoW. The fact that I'm as excited as I am about that shows how nerdy I have truly become, ha. The only problem now is that, if I want to keep up with my schoolwork and get back onto a writing schedule, I won't have time to play. I need to be able to stop time. Then I'll be able to do everything I want.

So yeah, there's an update. I need to get back into the habit of writing on here, too. Boo.

There need to be more hours in the day.
