Why can't you buy smaller quantities of celary than a whole head? It's always such a waste. In related news there is a cute boy in my kitchen who is awesomely making me hommade chicken soup. Love.<3

Evan made chili tonight from a recipe he found in the back of a Green Arrow trade.
It was surprisingly awesome.
That's all.

So Evan, who usually gets Hot Pockets or something along those lines to take to work decided to buy some "grown up" frozen dinners instead this week, focusing on Lean Cuisine because I guess someone from work had one and it smelled really good. While he was perusing the aisle I found one that looked/sounded yummy (sundried tomato pesto chicken pasta) and got it for myself. Looking at the nutrition information, though, I'm a bit confused as to how this is anywhere near "lean".
Within this single serving there are 290 Calories, 14% of your daily fat (out of a 2000 calorie diet) and 24% of your daily sodium (from that same 2000 calorie diet). The 9gs of fat (which makes up that 14% I guess) and 290 calories are advertised on the front of the box like their good things.
Now I've read that frozen dinners like this are actually rather good if you're trying to lose weight because of the portion size. You eat what is there, which is kind of a small amount (really, this could be eaten in about ten bites, if that), and then you're done. However, and this may be the eating disorder talking, if you're cramming 290 calories and 24% of your daily sodium into ten bites....how is that considered "lean" in any way? I would think having that many calories and that much sodium in a much larger portion (that could then be cut down to those ten bites) would be much healthier.
On a food related note, dad finally sent me his recipe for Chicken Marsala. I am so excited. Debating on cooking that for dinner tonight cos I'll have to stop at the State Store for wine on my way home if I do (and I'm already planning on stopping at Game Stop to pick up Arkham Asylum(which came out today, yay!) as a surprise for Evan cos he's having a crap week trying to get things together at the last minute to go back to school so he can have insurance (which doesn't seem like it's going to work out). Adding another stop will make dinner come even later, and as it is we prolly wouldn't be eating until going on 10.
Wait, he's raiding tonight. I'm not wasting awesome dinner on a night he's not even going to eat with me. I'll save it for tomorrow. It's my day off so I'll have more prep time anyhow.
I wonder how long chicken stock stays good once it's open. It's been a little over a week since I used it. I'll prolly have to remember to pick that up from the store tomorrow, too.
I've got fifteen minutes to kill on my lunch break. I'm gonna go walk down and get something warm and caffinated to help me make it through the day...and ignore the box of Jaffa Cakes that were for some reason left in my car instead of taken into the house and put into the snack cupboard where they couldn't tempt me with their awesome yumminess, ha.

The past couple days I've been taking walks on my lunch break. I work in an area of town called the Strip District which is full of all kinds of little shops, most of them related to food--there are ethnic groceries, bakeries, butchers, fish markets, open air produce markets, specialty candy/fudge, coffee shops, etc as well as a bunch of little restaurants (one of them, an awesome little diner, Obama ate at during the primaries).
So, today, whilst on my little walk (which was one part to walk off lunch and another part to get something warm--coffee, tea, hot chocolate, ANYTHING to take bake to work cos it's freaking Freezing in here, doubly so since the cleaning lady put my sweater...somewhere last week and I haven't been here early enough on the days she comes due to having class in the early AM now to ask her what happened to it) I wandered into a little specialty candy/snacks shop and discovered, on a table of imported cookies....
...Jaffa Cakes.
*cue choirs of angels*
Now, for those who don't know, Jaffa Cakes are these awesome cookies made in the UK. They're a soft cake base with this orange jelly-like part that is then covered in chocolate. And they are possibly one of the yummies cookies I've ever eaten (but then, I adore the orange + chocolate love affair). I learned about them due to a joke in Spaced that Evan and I would quote at random intervals which then led to us aquiring a box (or two or three) when we went to London for Spring Break last year. I've never seen them in a store over here and the idea of ordering food over the internet kind of bugs me (even though, I mean, imported is imported, but still...), so I've just accepted that I would never again taste one of these orangy chocolatey goodness in cookie form.
Until now.
I think I love that store.
Unfortunately, the store doesn't love me as they have a $5 minimum to use a card (I never carry cash anymore) and the cookies were $4.75. So I grabbed a candy bar off the counter and added that to the bunch not realizing that it was raw chocolate which for some reason cost almost ten bucks which I didn't really notice or pay attention to until I was out of the store cos I was so excited over silly cookies. Boo. Though I have discovered that raw chocolate + chai tea (redundant again) = yummy.
So yay snackfood I really shouldn't be eating since I noticed that I've lost a wee bit of weight (though not enough to make my clothes fit again, yet, grr), ha.
